My friends and I stopped into Upper Crust Wood Fired Pizza for a winter’s lunch and got their salad & pizza lunch deal. For $12 you get a personal pan pizza of your choice, a salad, and a beverage. In my opinion, $12 is a little bit pricey for lunch, so I was interested to see how outstanding their pizza was for that much.
I ordered the Mediterranean Salad, which comes with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, feta cheese, country olive mix, and lemon mint vinaigrette. It was very crisp, fresh, and flavorful, and came with the black and green olives pitted on the side.
For my pizza choice, I went with the Psycho Shroom pizza, which comes with pizza sauce, fontina cheese, mushrooms, chives, truffle oil, and grana. It had a nice flavor from the wood grill, and a tasty combination of ingredients. Several of us tried the Psycho Shroom pizza and the opinions were mixed between thinking that the flavor combination was plain odd, especially the added truffle oil, to thinking it was delicious.
I also got to try a piece of the Upper Amore, which came with a base of fig preserves topped with goat cheese, fresh prosciutto, balsamic glaze swirl, and fresh arugula. This was very tasty! I am a huge fan of goat cheese and prosciutto anyway, so I figured I would like it!
They also have a homemade Tomato Basil soup offering, which a couple of my friends tried and said that it was flavorful and very thick and creamy – perfect for a chilly day!
For wine lovers, they also have a wonderful wine selection, and customers can even peruse their wine storage area, which is visible for everyone to see.
All of their pizzas are cooked in a wood grill, added a nice smokey flavor. I wouldn’t say it was quite outstanding, but it was a nice, warm, yummy lunch.
