Three ingredients for a super summer weekend: rainbow bombs all over social media (a la the Supreme Court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage nationwide), barbecued burnt ends, and cool gelato!
This weekend Tasty Tulsa celebrated all of the happy news with a no-holds-barred feast of burnt ends at Oklahoma Joe’s, topped off with a cool, smooth gelato from the Gelateria.
When we walked into Oklahoma Joe’s Broken Arrow restaurant from the hot summer rays, we were greeted by a friendly employee directing us to the counter and Junior Brown playing over the waves, which set the tone for a nice, down-home Okie dining experience.
We had one thing on our minds when we walked into the country diner-esque joint: burnt ends. If you haven’t had the pleasure of having burnt ends, let me describe them to you, they are the burnt ends of the meat (obviously) that soak up all of the delicious seasonings and juices. These savory pieces are really the best of the best! We opted for fries and onion rings as our sides, and they were delightfully crispy and made for nice sides. However, well done on the outside, tender on the inside, and extremely flavorful, the burnt ends were definitely the stars of the meal.
After our BBQ feast we headed to the STG Gelateria to have some cool gelato for dessert. Natasha opted for cherry with amaretto and I got a mix of raspberry and panna cotta. Both flavor and texture-wise, they have mastered their gelato-making skills. All of the flavors we tried were extremely rich without being overpowering, and the texture was as smooth as silk, which is the sign of a really good gelato. This is something you just can’t get in the grocery aisle.
Oklahoma Joe’s is located at 333 W Albany St in Broken Arrow and the STG Gelateria is in the Farm Shopping Center. The STG Pizzeria and Gelateria is at 114 S Detroit Ave, Tulsa, in the Blue Dome District.
